Peer Support Services
Peer Support is one-on-one or group support provided by people who understand what it’s like to live in recovery with mental health or substance use difficulties. This is an adult only service offered in all locations across all 100 North Carolina counties.
What is Peer Support?
SHYAS provides one-on-one and group recovery supports to adults who have mental health and/or substance use issues. Our peer support counselors have two or more years of recovery and use their strength, hope, and experience to help others.
- Obtaining meals and basic necessities
- Engaging in social activities and developing natural supports
- Identifying, obtaining, and maintaining educational resources and employment
- Identifying, securing, and maintaining housing
- Pre-crisis and post-crisis support
- Demonstrating self advocacy
- Addressing health concerns and facilitating total wellness
- Promoting self help
Peer Support Groups
Peer Support groups are offered weekly at all six office locations. Group topics include Mindfulness Monday, Way to Work Wednesdays, money management, anger management, parenting, life skills, recovery skills, and more.
