What is BHUC?
Behavioral Health Urgent Care is an immediate-access crisis service designed for individuals experiencing acute mental health or substance use emergencies. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, BHUC is staffed by behavioral health specialists who can provide targeted psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and safety planning in a calm, supportive environment.

First Responder Agency
SHYAS is recognized as a First Responder Agency, meaning we provide enhanced crisis services that go beyond standard behavioral health care. Our crisis teams are equipped to respond rapidly, coordinate with law enforcement and EMS, and ensure individuals in crisis receive the right level of care at the right time. We maintain 24/7/365 on-call emergency crisis support by phone at 1 (866) 495-3651.

As a required component of our enhanced services designation, SHYAS maintains round-the-clock emergency crisis support by phone every day of the year. Whether you are in crisis at 2 AM or on a holiday, our trained crisis professionals are available to provide immediate phone-based intervention, safety planning, and referral coordination.

SHYAS Behavioral Health Urgent Care is located at 905 N Queen St, Kinston, NC and is scheduled to open in June 2026. This facility will serve as a critical resource for the eastern North Carolina community, providing immediate access to behavioral health crisis services.
