About This Service

BHUC is a behavioral health urgent care. A walk-in clinic designed to provide immediate, short-term support for mental health, substance use, or developmental disability crises. Think of them like regular physical urgent care centers, specialized for behavioral and psychiatric emergencies. Operating 24/7/365, the BHUC serve a vital role in healthcare by acting as a safe, calming, and specialized alternative to crowded hospital emergency rooms. BHUC serves those experiencing distress related to a crisis, but do not require intensive, multi-day inpatient hospital care. Examples include panic attacks, severe depression, acute anxiety, or substance use withdrawal.

Open Positions

Medical Director (Psychiatrist)

Our Medical Director is a board-certified psychiatrist who oversees all medical and psychiatric care at the BHUC, Peer Living Room, and clinics, including medication management, safety protocols, and medical supervision of our clinical team.

Clinical Director (LCSW/LCAS)

Our Clinical Director leads our licensed therapists and counselors. They ensure every assessment, treatment plan, and counseling session meets the highest clinical standards.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Our NPs are licensed medical providers with advanced training in psychiatry. They conduct psychiatric evaluations and manage medications to stabilize and support patients in recovery and during a mental health crisis.

Nurse Manager (RN)

Our Nurse Manager oversees all medical assessments, and clinical operations to ensure fast, efficient crisis intervention that bridges immediate medical stabilization with long-term trauma-informed care. Nursing services at the BHUC including medical monitoring, vitals, and coordination between our medical and clinical teams.

Licensed Clinicians (LCMHC(A)/LCSW(A)/LMFT(A)/LCAS(A)

Our clinicians specialize in assessment and counseling for mental health and substance use challenges. They hold active licenses with the respective NC Board. They provide individual and crisis counseling, safety planning, discharge, planning and connection to community resources.

Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS)

Our Peer Specialists have lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery. They are crossed trained as CNAs and LPNs so they can walk share hope, listen, and help you navigate your path to wellness during detox and crisis stabilization.
