Psychiatric Services
Psychiatric Services & Medication Management
SHYAS psychiatric services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management for mental health and substance use diagnoses, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorder.
Medication Management
Medication Management is the prescription, administration, and review of medications and the side effects of drug therapy for both mental health and substance use diagnoses. Our Medical Director, Dr. Michael Trombley, MD, leads our psychiatric services team.
- Medication Review — A review of all medications prescribed by all prescribers and any over-the-counter and herbal products
- Medication Education — Ensuring patients and caregivers understand why the medication has been prescribed and how to properly use it
- Collaboration — Working with other physicians and health care providers to achieve optimal medication therapy
- Medication Safety — Eliminating the likelihood of medications being used incorrectly
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
MAT is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies for the treatment of substance use disorders such as OUD (opioid use disorder). SHYAS uses this evidence-based approach with approved drugs including buprenorphine and naltrexone.
Suboxone Treatment
Suboxone is a combination medication comprised of buprenorphine and naloxone. When taken properly, Suboxone provides a way for you to gradually wean off your pre-existing addiction while minimizing withdrawal symptoms.
